The cast of "Joey" practically begging you to watch.

Sung to the tune of the "Friends" theme song...

So no one told you your spin-off would be this way
The show's a joke, it's broke, the punch lines DOA.
The entire premise sucks, and we all know it's clear
Every Friday you see the ratings are weak, it won’t be back for a third year

"Joey" stinks just like poo, and the writing is also poor
"Joey" is pure doo-doo, and the landlord gal’s a bore
"Joey" sucks yes it’s true, Now NBC is screwed

"Joey" is back for a second season, and it’s sad. Sad like when a boxer who has had the shit beat out of him comes back out for another round. Everyone watching knows the guy is going to get beaten even worse, his trainer knows it, hell even the boxer himself knows he’s about to be knocked to the floor again. And that’s what it’s like to watch "Joey." After a horrible first season, "Joey" was supposedly tinkered with over the summer and was going to return with some new life. Not so. It’s time to throw in the towel.

We know how you feel.

Everything that was wrong with "Joey" last season has remained, but in addition to the bad jokes, uninspired performances, and terrible canned laughter, is a new friend for "Joey" in the way of Zach (Miguel Nunez) who is an out of work actor. The throw-away jokes delivered by Zach aren’t enough to save the show, sorry NBC. Oh, and they also bumped up Jennifer Coolidge’s role as Joey’s agent Bobbie to a series regular. Also, too little too late.

For some reason, I decided to check out the first four episodes of the new season. I was hopeful that creator Scott Silveri (co-creator Shana Goldberg-Meehan was shit-canned, as if she was the sole reason why "Joey" tanked last year) would have learned from last year’s mistakes and just re-created "Joey." But, no, it’s the same ol "Joey." The fact of the matter is, folks, that "Joey" needed to be completely re-tooled because very little of the show works. And one of the main reasons is Joey himself…

Joey realizes it's time to pack it up.

On "Friends" Joey was part of an ensemble. His character worked well because he was the likeable schlub who wasn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer, and he was funny. On "Joey" they’ve made his character so incredibly stupid that it’s anyone’s guess how he even gets out of bed in the morning and functions as a grown adult. He’s become a cartoon character. It’s bad.

I could go on and on about what’s wrong with the show, but what’s the use? The Powers That Be at NBC and the writers on "Joey" have clearly given up and are just going through the motions. I can’t imagine how week after week these scripts make it to tape night - which, by the way, often goes well into the night, and often into the early hours of Saturday morning because the writers are often re-writing scenes right then and there.

Matt LeBlanc prays that he doesn't have to work till 2am on shoot night.

It’s really quite a shame that "Joey" couldn’t turn it around and take this second season, what amounts to a second chance, and make it work. The fact that people tuned out last season by the millions should have been a pretty good indication that the audience was not satisfied with the product. Instead they added a friend. Oh, and a new house. Not good enough, sorry.
