Another year, another FOX show that requires some serious suspension of disbelief. And we're not talking about Pamela Anderson working at a bookstore in "Stacked." We're talking about the new drama "Prison Break" that jumped out of the gate early in FOX's new fall lineup.
As required in reviews, we'll quickly explain the story: Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) is on death row for the murder of the vice president's brother. He swears he didn't do it, but everybody thinks he's as guilty as O.J. Everyone except for his brother Michael (Wentworth Miller), that is. In fact Michael is so sure of his brother's innocence that he robs a bank at gunpoint just to be thrown in the same jail as his bro. And his plan works! How convenient. Remember; use your suspension of disbelief. Anyway, he gets to jail, finagles his way to his brother, and explains that he's there to break him out! But how? Oh, did we forget to tell you that Michael was an engineer and worked for the company that designed the prison? Therefore he knows all the ins & outs of the prison? And that he had a blue print type map of the prison tattooed all over his body, so he could breakout with ease? Disbelief, Suspended.
So that's basically the plot. And once you get over the implausibility of it all, it turns out that "Prison Break" is a pretty solid show. The performances by Purcell and Miller (both Brits) are gripping, and the rest of the cast including Stacey Keach as the Warden, and Robin Tunney as Lincoln's current lawyer, and former girlfriend, adds to a wonderful ensemble.
The cast of "Prison Break" lookin' all hard & shit.
I have no idea how long they can keep this show going, I mean if they break out, it becomes "The Fugitive," and if they stay in prison, it becomes boring. But so far, so good. There are good guys, there are bad guys, and then there are even more bad guys. The show is tense, daring, suspenseful, a thrilling roller coaster ride, and all those other things people always use to describe an exciting movie or TV program!
SPOILER ALERT! Here is a screen capture from an upcoming episode of "Prison Break."
