TAG - The True American Idol
Back in October I promised I'd be back for more "random thoughts" soon. Well, now it's the end of January. Tough titty. It aint like you pay for this stuff. But, I swear this time, I am going to try to update this site like crazy. Maybe every day. Even if it's just one random thought. We'll see how that goes. In the meantime here's some rambling nonsense about everone's favorite trainwreck "American Idol!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------
So "American Idol" has finally returned to the airwaves and not a moment too soon for Fox. This freakin' show still pulls in over 30 million viewers, and in fact is up over 6% from last year. By comparison, Fox's biggest hit after "Idol" is the thrilling "24" which pull in less than half the viewers.
The two part season premiere of "American Idol" not only brought in the ratings, it also brought controversy with it when loudmouth "Idol" judge Simon Cowell called a contestant short on vocal skills but overflowing with peculiar looks a "bush baby."
You probably know the story by now, since, you know, it's kind of old news, but in case you just crawled out of a hole, just woke up from a coma, just landed here from outer space, or you're Amish and decided to click on www.tvadviceguy.com to see what this crazy "internet" is all about, here's the story: Two "unique" dudes decided to audition for "American Idol" and were ridiculed on nation television. That's pretty much it. And guess what? Who Cares?!
People, this is what "American Idol" does. This is the show's sixth season, so why is anyone shocked that these comments were made? All sorts of people audition for the show, most of them are terrible, some of them are ok, a few of them are good. Ten thousand people show up to a single audition, which means you get all walks of life, including, it turns out, overweight dudes with autism and skinny guys with eyes the size of quarters.
Bush baby? Nope, at 23, he's a Reagan baby.
Now, was what Simon said a bit tacky? Maybe a tad insulting? Did he need to compare poor Kenneth Briggs to "one of those creatures in the jungle with those massive eyes?" Probably not.
When Jonathan Jayne came in to audition next, did Simon need to ask the overweight aspiring singer with autism if he had "borrowed Randy's trousers?" Maybe not, but he did. Just like he would have made that crack to any other hefty contestant.
He's not heavy, he's my brother.
The bottom line is, Simon might be the bully that picks on those who can't defend themselves, but at this point anyone who auditions for "American Idol" knows what they're in for. And if they're too "retarded" to figure it out for themselves, then why doesn't a family member or friend warn them that they stand to be torn to shreds? Why? Because everyone wants to be a celebrity. It's a sad state of affairs, but that's what it is. And now that these two kids have been shit on for the whole world to see, they finally got what they wanted; people talking about them.
Good for them?
Like this guy has any room to make fun of people?!
