Wipe that smile off your face, Stone - You're fired!

NBC Passes a Stone!

Seems that after 15 years of service on what seems like a million episodes of "Dateline NBC," the peacock network has had enough of anchor Stone Phillips.

NBC is parting ways with the face of the NBC newsmagazine in a "cost cutting move." You know what would have saved NBC some change? Oh, I don't know, maybe not picking up the many failed sitcoms the network produced over the past ten years like "Union Square," "The Tony Danza Show," "Working," "Caroline in the City," "House Rules," "Conrad Bloom," "The Mike O'Malley Show," "M.Y.O.B.," "Tucker," "Cursed," "DAG," "Three Sisters," "Sammy," "The Fighting Fitzgeralds," "Watching Ellie," "Emeril," "Leap of Faith," "In-Laws," "Hidden Hills," "The Jake Effect," "A.U.S.A.," "Whoopie," "Happy Family," "The Tracy Morgan Show," and "Coupling." But those are just a few that come to mind.

Now, granted, Stone Phillips really was nothing more than a talking head on "Dateline NBC." An expensive cardboard cutout that introduced segments but rarely seemed to do any actual investigating of his own. But he was there during all the lean years of NBC. When the network was rolling out flop after flop, they relied on "Dateline" sometimes up to five nights a week. They literally used Stone Phillips as an anchor for their lineup, counting on him to give that signature tilted-head delivery to salvage their sinking schedule. Now, after fifteen years, they say he's not worth it.

Shame on you, NBC. Catching a predator will never be the same.
