Hats off to WB Entertainment President David Janollari for having the balls to re-new the best new hour long series of the season, “Jack & Bobby.”
Even though the little show that could is being buried in the ratings (a test pattern beats it in Adults 18-49 I think), Janollari and the good people at the WB decided to be patient and give this diamond in the rough a shot.
Personally, I’m a half hour sitcom guy, probably because I have the attention span similar to that of a 7 year old child with ADD, but I slipped in the free DVD of the “Jack & Bobby” pilot that came in my Entertainment Weekly and was surprised at how good it was. Which reminds me, I’d like to mention that the free DVD in the magazine is about the best marketing idea ever. I might not have found the time to find “Jack & Bobby” had I not been turned onto it via free DVD. Never underestimate the power of ‘free.’
I think Christine Lahti as the single mom, Grace McCallister, is excellent. And the McCallister boys played by Matthew Long (Jack) and Logan Lerman (Bobby) both are refreshing and don’t reek of “child actors.”
I look forward to future episodes of this superb series, and hope it won’t fall victim to the Schedule Shuffle that many shows seem to go through when trying to find an audience.
Oh, and the word is that the only demographic that “Jack & Bobby” is doing well in is “rich people.” Which I find amusing, since that’s a demographic that I don’t fall into. Or even fall near.
